Remember that. Right now, Kerry is winning. His victory is not inevitable, but right now, it's the way the polls are leaning. So let's not hear any defeatism from the Kerry side.

Kerry Maintains Lead Over Bush

John Kerry continues to maintain his lead over George W. Bush among Americans registered to vote according to a nationwide survey from the American Research Group, Inc. In the ballot preference between Kerry and Bush, 50% say they would vote for Kerry and 44% say they would vote for Bush. In March, Kerry was at 50% and Bush was at 43%. When Ralph Nader is added to the ballot, 48% say they would vote for Kerry, 43% say they would vote for Bush, and 2% say they would vote for Nader. This is unchanged from March.

I'm sorry, but I just can't help it. I'm so afraid... so afraid... after everything Bush has been able to get away with since 9/11... with Karl Rove on his side... there has to be a huge, last-minute, devastating smear attack against Kerry, I just know it...

If you have time and can do it, become a precinct volunteer. Work on getting out the vote. Volunteer for Kerry's campaign. Educate your friends and neighbors.

Am I scared about what you're scared about? Yeah. But the only thing that can be done is to DO SOMETHING.

Three democratic voters in the rear.
Three in the middle.
One in the front.
That is seven per van-load.
Now, if you do ten van-loads in an eight hour period, that's 70 democratic votes.
The Republicans?
Well, they could probably use the exercise, or afford the cab fare.

It's probably worth noting that "ahead in the polls" doesn't actually map to "winning". It's not as though they're already counting votes, and Kerry has more of the votes counted.

Yeah, it's encouraging, so long as the fact that it's essentially meaningless is kept in mind.

He's not winning the election, but he's winning the campaign. Or, at least, leading in one moderately important measure.

It is worth remembering that he lost the last election in terms of the popular vote, though. That's a good reason to continue to point out the lies, deceptions, and general ill-will toward (all but the richest) people that this Administration has propagated, right up until its members are all moved out of office for good.

One of the reasons I keep trumpeting the poll numbers, even though they're an imperfect measure of a currently meaningless factor, is that I think there's a widespread defeatism among people who should know better. A friend of mine just returned from a trip to Arkansas convinced that Bush was unbeatable because everyone he met there was pro-Bush, and there's a long-standing false idea somehow the hinterlands are more "authentically American" than the decadent coasts, and thus the fact that some idiots in Arkansas support Bush indicates that the whole nation does.

The current polling indicates, in fact, that the majority of the nation, or at least of its voting populace, doesn't support Bush, and I think that's worth bringing up, again and again.
