Musical note
May. 9th, 2005 07:44 amI don't buy new music very often, so I'm surprised to say that on a whim I bought Hot Fuss by The Killers. Two of the songs on the album had been getting a moderate amount of play on the radio station I'm in love with (WXPK, "The Peak", 107.1 FM in White Plains), enough so that I recognize them and like them. One of them, "Mr. Brightside", is both quite good and very peculiar; it sounds exactly like The Pixies performing an Ultravox song, which is as weird a combination as you're likely to find among bands I like. (Well, okay, there's still Mojo Nixon's performance of "Girlfriend in a Coma.")
The rest of the album, unsurprisingly, is not as good as the two "hits" (the other is "Smile Like You Mean It"), but I don't regret having bought it.
