Mike Ford'll do this better, someday.

(Inspired by [livejournal.com profile] drelmo's grousing and by a visit to [livejournal.com profile] nemesis_draco, the Mike Ford memorial community.)

It's an admirable sentiment, but it's not a story. That's what makes it so hard to do. People end up penning little blurbs or synopses instead of stories. I wrote, then deleted, a whole passel of non-stories.

I actually debated that question in my head, but I stand by my initial impulse: I believe this to be a story written in the future tense.

I don't know why it needs to be the future tense, in that case.

"Somewhere, Mike Ford's doing this better."

(Mike Ford would know what to do with "tense" and "case" too.)

In present tense, it's a fantasy story; in future tense, it might be sf, a mini version of "Sailing to Byzantium" with almost as much plot!

How's this for a very bleak one? Is it story or not?

"That day, every story ended abruptly."

It's a tough call, but it seems particular enough to be a story. I might have to ask the Magic 6-Ball...
