I've been an admirer of M. A. R. Barker's world of Tekumel since I first encountered it thirty or so years ago in the original Empire of the Petal Throne RPG. It's a weird and wonderful mix of elements from human societies (Aztec, Deccan) which don't get as much attention in fantasy as some others I could name (Norse, Celtic, late medieval France) and a lot of brain-frying original stuff.

There's a new version of the game out. The bottom line is, is it worth getting? Is it the long-sought all-in-one intro to Tekumel? Is the game system worthwhile? Enquiring minds and all that. Let me know.

I think [livejournal.com profile] badger2305 posted something about this as well, but I don't remember the conclusions he reached, if any.

You might find [livejournal.com profile] welshbard and see what he thinks. Brett's been involved in Tekumel for years - he's done some Tekumel -> GURPS translation - and I've been in a Tekumel campaign with him for the last couple of years. He just got a copy of the BESM book, and will certainly have an opinion on it within the next week or two.
