The Glory of Democracy, or, "We Had that Accountability Moment"

Or, "Dude, Where's My Mandate?"

Adults were evenly divided on Bush's job performance in January, but now 54 percent disapprove and 45 percent approve. The number who think the country is headed down the wrong track increased from 51 percent to 58 percent in the past month.

Or "Buyer's Remorse." Or "Too bad you assholes weren't paying attention in November."

Things I will not do the next time I live through 2004

# reelect George Bush, then patiently wait for him to radically change his foreign and domestic policy

Womzilla:

When I brought up the Dubya-as-Henry-V comparison, you said something which has haunted me ever since: "Shakespeare is one of the few people who thought that Henry V was a good king."

In following the confirmation hearings of Condi Rice and Alberto R. Gonzales, it occurred to me that the people aren't hoping for Henry (so few are selling the farm to buy the horse -- ask Jonah Goldberg why he isn't in the military) so much as Earl Warren...that they must feel that these people who were decidedly one way as National Security Adviser and President's Counsel will, as Cabinet Officers, be as much of a surprise as Secretary of State and Attorney General as Warren was when he went from being California's Attorney General (yep, interning the Japanese is a great idea) and Governor (yep, that Executive Order #9066 is still a great idea) to being Chief Justice of the United States, where he sometimes interrupted legal arguments before the Supreme Court by saying "yes, yes, but is it fair?" and whose Court's decisions generally tried to make things, if not fully fair, at least more fair than they had been previously.

(Of course, given the religious aspects of Bush's appeal, maybe they're hoping that they'll be Beckets to Bush's Henry II. Close parenthesis before I start quoting "I'm Henry VIII, I Am.")

I can't see it happening. That dog don't hunt, and while hope is the thing with feathers, that avian don't fly.

Chirping out. Best to all, including the rats (especially the rats, he amended, in his best Tasmanian Devil voice).

Presumably this (http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington/2005-02-11-bush-poll_x.htm) news story?

The fafblog quote was very funny, but it looks as though the public is happy enough with Bush's foreign policy. In the interests of truth rather than humor, I don't think people voted for Bush hoping he'd change what he was doing, they voted for him expecting that his policies would work.

Bush ran on a fear platform--"the rest of the world is scary, and only Bush can keep you safe"--and now he's starting to get people afraid of him with the social security changes he wants.
