Virginia is for Haters

[livejournal.com profile] neonnurse pointed me to a page on the site of the office of the Governor of Virginia where you can send messages directly to Governor Warner.

Be polite. Spell and punctuate properly. And tell him that until that hateful law is repealed, you will spend no money in Virginia and will inform your friends that they should do the same.

UPDATE: [livejournal.com profile] baldanders beat me to the title of this post, and probably so did a hundred thousand other people. But I didn't know that when I wrote it.

Another idea

Note that I'm NOT defending that incredibly stupid and cruel law, but: Warner vetoed it. The legislature passed it over his veto. So Warner *knows* it's a bad law and I'm not sure writing to him will do much good.

Writing to other Virginia officials -- such as their legislators (http://legis.state.va.us/) -- and Virginia newspapers' (http://dir.yahoo.com/News_and_Media/Newspapers/By_Region/U_S__States/Virginia/Complete_List/) Letters to the Editors columns might have more effect.

This page (http://leg1.state.va.us/cgi-bin/legp504.exe?041+ful+HB751) lists who the sponsors of the bill were in the legislature. You could start with them. Also note this page (http://leg1.state.va.us/cgi-bin/legp504.exe?041+sum+HB751) which shows all the votes (http://leg1.state.va.us/cgi-bin/legp504.exe?041+vot+HV0768+HB0751) on the bill (http://leg1.state.va.us/cgi-bin/legp504.exe?041+vot+SV0912+HB0751) in (http://leg1.state.va.us/cgi-bin/legp504.exe?041+vot+HV1829+HB0751) both (http://leg1.state.va.us/cgi-bin/legp504.exe?041+vot+SV1161+HB0751) houses (http://leg1.state.va.us/cgi-bin/legp504.exe?041+vot+HV1967+HB0751). See who voted for it and put them next on your list.

Oh, and this guy (http://leg1.state.va.us/cgi-bin/legp504.exe?041+mbr+H57) seems to be the main "patron." Or culprit, or whatever.

(I think I'm going to post this comment separately on my LJ, too, to reach a few more people.)
