Signs of the season

Within the past five days, I have a) seen an attractive woman in shorts and b) been complimented on not waiting until spring really arrived to switch into sandals.

Now I'm just waiting for the first groundhog, and spring will officially be here.

You are waiting for a robin. I am waiting for a groundhog, because they come out in the spring and they're very much like wombats.

Hrmph.

In this neighborhood, we have robins, flowers, squirels, and from time to time, we have moles, pheasants and even wild turkey (with feathers, not in a bottle) but no groundhogs.

Just my 12-year-old.

We get actual flocks of wild turkeys in the parkways around the highways, especially up by the Sprain Brook Reservoir. I'm not sure I've ever seen a pheasant in the wild, although it's possible that I've misidentified one as a wild turkey.

I did see a really cute live skunk about a week ago, but they don't hibernate, so that doesn't count as a sign of spring. For that matter, I doubt that Vicki hibernates, either.
