Been Busy

Job interview on Monday for a six-week contract position for which I am pretty much perfectly qualified. Here's hoping.

That's not what inspired me to post. I found this on the sidebar of [livejournal.com profile] tnh's blog. It's John Kerry showing a backbone:

As they did with John McCain in South Carolina in 2000 and as they did with Senator Max Cleland, they have again questioned my commitment to the defense of our country. I'm not going to stand by and let the likes of Saxby Chambliss and the Republican Party question my commitment to keeping our nation strong--I've voted for some of the largest defense and intelligence budgets in our history.

I'd like to know what it is Republicans who didn't serve in Vietnam have against those of us who did. I'm tired of Republicans trying to divert attention from the real issues--here in Georgia you've lost 70.000 jobs, you've got 1.3 million Georgians without health insurance--and that's what this race should be about. These are the real issues they should be willing to talk about instead of engaging in the politics of fear and questioning our commitment to fighting for the country we fought for in uniform.

This was dated 21 Feb. Note that three days later, the chickenhawk-in-chief completely shut down all other political discourse in the US by coming out strongly in favor of the doomed pro-bigotry Constitutional amendment.

(Yes, doomed. Do you really think that 67 senators are going to vote in favor of it?)

Maybe, if Dubya is re-elected, and they think that it is popular, and/or if it pushes their own religious buttons?

Good thoughts for the interview...

I haven't noticed any response to Kerry's challenge, anywhere. Not even to reject it. I didn't even see it mentioned, anywhere except Teresa's weblog. While I'm not any kind of avid, when it comes to political news, I do skim the Boston Globe more often than not.

Shutting down political discourse is really scary. Especially because the rumor about Kerry and the intern is still being *talked* about, in terms of how sleazy Kerry was (though it's now acknowledged that the initial report was false - he didn't technically commit adultery.) This is just appalling.

Best of luck on the interview!

Yeah, Kerry's doing good. He just needs to stay on target like this and he could win.
