I'm not good at relaxing anymore
Actually, my biggest problem today was that I didn't sleep very well. After our driving adventure last night--which left our sole functioning car, Templeton, sticking out into the street--I found myself waking repeatedly during the night worrying about him, and unable to sleep at all after 6 AM. So when I did get up at 7 (my usual work out-of-bed time), I was exhausted and I never quite shook it. I also didn't have any coffee today, which didn't help. And I was still grumpy about having to cancel our social plans with ![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
sarah_ovenall and Mr. Mondomundo. I hope I can visit North Carolina this year--maybe mid-spring?
I did work from home a bit. The office was nearly deserted because of the near-total paralysis of the New York regional trains, especially the commuter lines. But we did trade (especially thanks to the offices in Minneapolis and San Francisco, which were unaffected by this spot of weather), and I did get a few things done from home. Accomplishing anything under the circumstances felt like a reach achievement.
Mid-day, we did try to get nellorat to her yoga class, only to discover that I was foolishly optimistic about how passable were the 10' between the end of our drive and the portion of the street that was actually plowed. We stalled in place with Templeton's rear end hanging just barely into the through-lane, and then went and got shovels and saltand implements of destruction and got our exercise that way. Some fun. But it's clear now and we should all have no trouble getting to work tomorrow. Yay.
Mostly I tried to relax, and by the end of the day I had managed it.nellorat and I watched a lot of television--two queued up episodes of CSI NY, the pilot episode of Boardwalk Empire (which she had watched realtime but I had not), and a Simpsons from our backlog. That last is the only show that supergee watches with us, and without really intending to, we sort of got two years behind. But we're now watching them faster than they come out, so we will catch up in the fullness of time.
I wrapped up the evening playing my first session of the old MS-DOS-based 1830. This came out back in the mid-1990s, and its interface was so clunky and primitive by those standards that I couldn't stand to play it. I'm more tolerant now, and much more familiar with the game system, so I managed to play all the way through. And, to my amazement, I won, even though I made a couple of staggering blunders due to my lack of familiarity with that specific game.
And so to bed. In the balance, a nice way to end the holiday weekend, with an unexpected snow day. Even adults are allowed them once in a while.
