Going under the knife tomorrow

I'm finally have the upper respiratory surgery I've been putting off for a decade--repair of my deviated septum, scraping the turbinates, and widening the openings to several of my sinuses. With luck, this will lead to less snoring, fewer colds, and a better sense of smell. This is all definite out-patient stuff, and my doctor thinks I'll be back on my feet in a day, but he's an optimist. Online activity may be reduced for the next few days.

From someone who's been there, try to keep ice packs on your face as much as you can stand it in the first couple of days after surgery. It does help reduce the ultimate swelling. Best of luck!

Breathing and sleeping are worth doing well. Good luck!

Good luck, I'll be thinking about you tomorrow! If they can, it would be great if Nellorat and/or Supergee could post to let us know when you're home safe.

Waitaminute... don't you live in New York? Why do you want your sense of smell back?

(I can't take credit for that like; I'm paraphrasing Bill Hicks.)

Years ago, when I first started seeing the ENT, because I was still getting frequent ear infections, he started me on a nasal anti-inflammatory. About ten days later, my sense of smell was much stronger than it had been--in August, in New York. Yeah, definite mixed blessing.

I hope everything goes well.
