On Friday, Philadelphia Phillies second baseman Chase Utley told 100,000 people attending a celebration for the team that the Philles are "World Fucking Champions". This revelation was legal, shocked approximately three people in the audience of 100,000, and was not an abuse of power in any way.

On Friday, an anonymous employee of the US federal government told Ruper Murdoch's Times of London that Barack Obama's half-aunt Zeituni Onyango is under investigation for living and working in the United States illegally. This revelation, unlike Utley's, is a violation of federal law and was undoubtedly intended to sway the election against Obama.

Which one of these utterances had you heard any outrage about?

I haven't heard any outrage about either. Until now, I hadn't heard anything about the first, and exactly one mention about the second.

I hate to say this, but this is also the first I'd heard about the first item, and only the second time I'd heard about the second.

But as for the former, that is probably a function of the care with which I peruse the sports news, namely none. This is not quite the first I'd heard that the Phillies won the World Series, but it's pretty damn close.

I hadn't heard anything about either of them.

Only the latter; I hadn't even heard the first incident had happened, much less that anyone objected.

Outrage, none. I had heard that the leak about Ms. Onyango was illegal and being investigated; I hadn't even heard about Utley. But the only radio we listen to is WFUV and WNYC [1], and not huge amounts of those right now.

[1] Fordham's radio station, mostly for music and Vin Scelsa's mix of that, books, and anything else he feels like, and the city-run NPR station, where [livejournal.com profile] cattitude is getting Morning Edition, Garrison Keillor, and sometimes Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me and Car Talk.

Of course, I've heard all about the Utley outrage, but that might be because I actually saw it online live when it happened. The really funny thing is that it had the loudest, longest applause of any line during the celebration festivities.

WORLD FUCKING CHAMPIONS!

Sorry, I haven't gotten tired of saying it, and I refuse to spell it with a politically correct "Ph" as many people in Philly have already started doing.
