Sorry I haven't been posting much. With the combination of work, losing my computer for four days last week, upgrading some furniture, and a hectic NYRSF Work Weekend, I've been pretty swamped. But I didn't want to let this one go.

I've been fulminating about neocons again after making the mistake of reading political commentary by one in the LJ of a much more sensible person. But

But here's a wonderful summary of what needs to be said about them, courtesy of a regular on The Daily Kos:

Some Terrorists Still Good Guys In Bush Administration's View

Not all terrorists are created equal in the eyes of official Washington. That's not news, obviously. For decades, the U.S. has backed terrorists when this suited its purposes. Elements among the contras of Nicaragua, who used their own and CIA-honed terrorist techniques, provide a well-known example.

A political naïf might have expected the fact that 9/11 "changed everything" to have undermined the double standard regarding terrorism. Yet we have NeanderCons Michael Ledeen and Daniel Pipes, as well as Congressmen such as Sam Brownback, carrying water for the Mujahedin-e Kalq (MEK), a terrorist organization devoted to the overthrow of the Iranian theocracy. These guys aren’t really terrorists, says Ledeen, but rather our allies in that greater geopolitical struggle where his ilk see morality as an impediment to victory.

(emphasis added; entire quote included for context, but that sentence really does it for me.)

The story behind the MEK is astounding, actually. The punchline is that Iran offered to trade several high-ranking al-Qaeda operatives in Iran to the Iraq puppet government in exchange for some MEK prisoners they/we held. Because of the neocon refusal to compromise in the face of evil (defined as "whatever geopolitical target they happen to think is next on the Big List O'Evil"), they/we declined. So Iran freed them. But, hey, it's not like al-Qaeda is important or anything. That's so pre-February 31.
