The International Conference on the Fantastic in the Arts (ICFA) is rapidly approaching--it will be held on March 24-28 in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. The ICFA is my favorite convention--it combines what I find to be the best aspects of an sf convention with the best aspects of an academic conference, with lots of conviviality and a lot of passionate interest in interesting things.
The ICFA bookroom, which has a wonderful selection of new and used trade and academic books, depends on semi-volunteer labor. I say "semi-" because if you are willing to work two four-hour shifts over the course of the conference (which can include set-up and take-down time on Tuesday and Sunday), you will get a refund on the cost of the conference *and* a free ticket to the Friday afternoon banquet, a $100 value. People who are willing to work more shifts can get tickets to the Thursday afternoon and Saturday evening banquets as well.
To volunteer for the bookroom, please contact me directly by e-mail as soon as possible. If you live in or near Ft. Lauderdale, or feel like visiting, please give us a thought.
Thanks!
