Today's big news
Feb. 1st, 2003 02:02 pm17 people were killed outside Kandahar when the bus they were riding in struck a land mine. Anyone remember Afghanistan?
I am reminded of May 1998. On the day after Frank Sinatra died, my local paper devoted most of their front page to his death, and published an eight-page supplement about his life on the day after that. At the same time, they devoted one small article page 7 to the 250 people who had died in rioting in Indonesia, part of the violence which lead to the departure from power of one of the world's most entrenched and brutal dictators, Suharto.
It's nice to see that attention goes where it is deserved.
