Many of you will know SF author Michael Bishop. He is a long-time friend of and contributor to NYRSF; I've known him casually but warmly for about 20 years.

His son Jaime taught German at Virginia Tech. Herr Bishop's classroom was the site of the second part of yesterday's slaughter, and Jaime Bishop is among the dead.

I've never met Michael, but we published an essay by him in the most recent ISFiC Press book. I have, of course, communicated with him and read many of his works. My heart goes out to him and Jeri and I can only feel incredible sadness every time I see Jaime's name in the news reports.

One of Jaime Bishop's colleagues is the friend of ladyeuthanasia's SO. People are expressing sympathy here (http://ladyeuthanasia.livejournal.com/645935.html), I believe to everyone involved. The links between the people on my flist surprise me sometimes. Today it creeps me out a bit.
