. . . I misunderestimate right-wing lunatics still further.

I knew it was a mistake to follow the link [livejournal.com profile] supergee provided to Michelle "Internment Camps? Sounds Good to Me!" Malkin's post about the Texas Rangers wearing "Los Rangers" jerseys to celebrate Cinco de Mayo. I knew the post would be petty, stupid, and awful.

Even then, I wasn't expecting this:

While it's considered a celebration of "diversity" to acknowledge the military sacrifices of another nation's heroes, it's considered racist to acknowledge the military sacrifices of one's own.

Case in point: Can you imagine if someone proposed changing the Rangers' jerseys to "Confederate Rangers" to celebrate Confederate Heroes' Day?

Oh, and I'm sure I'll be labeled a racist for pointing out the double standard.

No, Michelle, you'll be labeled a racist for comparing a war fought to avoid conquest by overseas imperialists with a traitorous rebellion fought to allow people to buy and sell other people like livestock. It's a typically unhinged Malkinism, with extra historical idiocy thrown in.

None of my "nation's heroes" died fighting for the slavers. There were many brave people on the side of the slave-holders--there are brave people on any side in any war--but they were no none of them my nation's heroes. They were true traitors in a way that today's right wing only aspire to be.

Agreed on Malkin. I had ancestors on both sides of the Civil War, including one who was held in the Andersonville stockade. (I don't know what that all amounts to in the context of your post, but I thought I'd throw it in. I learned about that particular ancestor the summer I was playing a witness in a local production of "The Andersonville Trial.")

She'd also be accurately labelled a racist for considering that a double standard, as well as just an idiot.

They're so tiring.

Lost in all this is tnat it's pretty stupid to celebrate diversity by throwing "Los" on the front of the team name, very stupid that the jerseys were red white & blue, and the undeniable fact that the shirts were ugly.

Malkin conveniently forgets to acknowledge that the one of the reasons for the Texican revolt was that Mexico banned slavery in its territories.

Well, it should be noted that the secession wasn't the traitorous act... the act of war was when the CSA attacked US troops, months later.
