PDFs

grahamsleight earlier this week about a program to turn Microsoft Office documents into PDFs, which reminded me that not everyone knows about the freeware program PDFCreator. This is a really simple program which turns Ghostwriter (an open-source Postscript/PDF tool) into a Windows printer, so that instead of sending pages to the printer, it sends them into a PDF file. The result is dirt-simple PDF--you won't get things like text-imput fields--but for a lot of documents, it's a great solution.

(Incidentally, Graham is now the editor of Foundation, the main British journal of sf criticism, blessings unto him.)

You realise the Foundation gig (which doesn't start till 2007) means I'll have to submit more of my reviews and essays to, uh, non-Foundation journals based in, for instance, major metropolises of the American Northeast. Caesar's wife and all that. Hope you don't mind.

Except, of course, for the fact that it's not. Sourceforge.net. Says so right on the page, if you follow the link. In fact, sourceforge.org redirects to sourceforge.net.

My initial response was much crankier than it should have been. I realized several days later that I've developed an extreme sensitivity to being corrected when I'm not in error because there are people on Usenet who use correction as a superiority tool. My apologies.

No problem. it's just when I tried the link, nothing came up, so I changed .net to .org and got the correct page. I wouldn't have mentioned it if everything had worked perfectly.
