Two trifectas

[livejournal.com profile] bugsybanana quotes this from a comment at Eschaton:

Back in journalism school[...]we learned that there are three ways for government officials to screw up: malfeasance (deliberate bad acts), misfeasance (unintentional bad acts), and nonfeasance (failure to act).

We seem to have hit the trifecta.

A couple of days ago, I asked [livejournal.com profile] supergee, "So, which do you think is going to finally push the Republicans out of office: The corruption, the indifference, or the incompetence?" Of course, in the current situation, we have all three.

I suspect active cruelty is coming into play, too. I don't believe that trapping people in the Superdome and forbidding helpers to come in is just an accident.

Unfortunately, they still have 18 months +- before they have to leave. Until then, they'll do everything in their power, which is a lot. Republicans simply don't believe in democracy and conservatives don't believe in America. Until the moderate/liberal branch of the GOP reasserts itself, and conservatives actually want to conserve something, the people in power are on a jihad against you and me. I'm an optimist, and would like to think that the oily Bush administration slipped in due to massive indifference of the populace and a subjugated fourth estate, but I was saying this before the last election.

The major indication of a return to sanity will be the impeachment of George W. Bush. Bets?
