I had not known that the 1995 movie Babe was based on a written work, Dick King-Smith's The Sheep-Pig. I might have known that if I'd ever seen the film.

Meandering on a question raised by learning that tidbit*, I learned that one of the finest living directors of fantastic films--George Miller--is currently in pre-production on Mad Max 4: Fury Road. I happen to think, unironically, that The Road Warrior is one of the high points of 20th century sf film, and that Beyond Thunderdome had a lot to recommend it. (The original Mad Max isn't nearly at the standard of the other two.) He's also "announced" as the director of a new film adaptation of The Odyssey, which I think he'd be excellent at. So, stuff to look forward to.

* The question, and the answer first: No, Babe: Pig in the City was an original sequel. It written by the writer of Babe--to wit, Miller, who also directed the later film, making him director of one of the great fantasy films as well as one of the great sf films.
